General Electric and Andover, MA-based ENEL Green Power (jobs at ENEL) announced on Monday Apr. 8th, 2013 that GE will invest $40 million to help ENEL build the Buffalo Dunes wind farm in Kansas. In addition to the $40 million, GE will supply 135 wind turbines, and will operate and maintain the wind farm after completion.

The Buffalo Dunes wind farm, located in Finney, Grant and Haskell Counties in southwest Kansas in expected to cost $370 million and be completed by December 1013 according to ENEL.

The construction, handled by Broomfield, CO-based RES Americas (jobs at RES Americas), is expected to be completed by December 2013, and employ 150 construction workers.

After completion, the wind farm will create 15 permanent green jobs, in addition to the jobs needed at GE to manufacture and maintain the 135 wind turbines and related infrastructure.

The wind farm will produce 250MW of clean electricity, enough to power 65,000 homes. Alabama Power Co, a unit of power company Southern Co, will buy most of the electricity from the wind farm under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
